This is what happened on my way to work this morning:
As usual, the train heading towards Boonlay was crowded.
I noticed this uncle, probably in his early 60s or late 50s, lets call him Uncle A, has been eyeing for a seat for a very long time. And not far from him, was this auntie(Auntie A). Probably in her mid 50s eyeing for a seat too. When the train pulled over at Redhill station, this young man alighted, thus leaving an empty seat. This is where the drama unfolds. Both Uncle A and Auntie A approached the seat. Uncle A darted for that empty seat as though his life depended on it. Auntie A, not wanting to lose out, ran for that seat too. What happened, was a brief jostle of survival of the fittest. Pushing and screaming at each other, Uncle A manage to somehow 'push' Auntie A off balance. Almost falling to the ground. Uncle A emerged victorious. And Auntie A walking away in shame. Not until a kind fella offered his seat to her on another cabin.
Amazing huh? All the talks about Singapore being a kind and gracious society. Such actions can be disappointing at times. Or rather everytime. I am sure this image is happening on every single train in Singapore. Not to mention inconsiderate passengers who crowd the cabin doors even before the train pulls over and some dont even allow alighting passengers a chance to alight.
I was caught in such situations before. Suppose to alight at City Hall. In the end, ended up missing that City Hall stop. Pissed. I started to cursing and swearing. Over the years, many kind of MRT passenegers have appeared. Let me name a few.
1. Those who will die just to get a seat.
2. Those who pretend not to see any people who needs the seats more than they do.
3. Those who crowd the entrance.
4. Idiots who park their butt at the doors.
5. Pole grabbers.
6. Parents who let their kids run riot on the train. Pretending the kids are not theirs.
7. People who talk on the phone machiam training for some 7th month auction.
the list goes on. Anybody got any other examples? Pleas kindly tell me.
